Indiana Basketball Academy (IBA) offers opportunities for young people to develop and improve their basketball skills. The Training Leagues offer an opportunity for hands-on coaching in the clinic court and game play for the participants. We want to teach kids how to play basketball for fun and help them form good character while playing. We exist to help ALL kids receive expert coaching and the playing time needed for improvement. We reach out to kids to provide a nurturing environment to learn and enjoy the game of basketball. Their character development is critical to us, as this can yield life long benefits.
IBA offers multiple levels of Training:
-
Instructional Leagues/Training League
-
These are two hour sessions for kids to play a minimum of two games per session. There will be at least one coach on the floor at all times providing instruction and encouragement to each player. Each kid is paired with another of similar athletic ability and talent. This provides an opportunity for kids of all levels to compete and enjoy their time on the court. When the players are not in the game, they will be working with a coach in the clinic court on skill development.
-
Intensive Training/Tryout Training
-
These are one to two hour sessions that focus on skill development and physical training. Similar to what a player might expect in a school practice, these are highly intensive workouts mixed with conditioning drills. Ball Handling, Shooting, Passing and footwork are just a few of the skills that the drills are designed to improve.
These programs are highly utilized by players during the off season for travel and school teams. However, these programs are offered year round and will provide an opportunity for the player to continue to work on skill and athletic development.
-
Team Training
Specific drills and areas of emphasis can be designed per the request of the team coaches.
This program can be offered at IBA or provided at the Team’s school or practice facility.
4. PreSchool Training
For the past 14 years, IBA has been the first place that young players have been exposed to the game. The IBA offers one hour sessions 2-3 times per week for pre K boys and girls from ages (3-6). These classes are a great introduction to the game of Basketball. The classes are fun and nurturing but also teach the kids the proper way to dribble, proper shooting form, right way to pass and catch the basketball, and also introduce a game each session. There are 3 main objectives of our pre-K class
Development: The classes are geared to be fun and challenging but with no pressure to learn the game. Many times there are different abilities of children and Tom and the IBA staff get to know each kid personally and make them feel welcomed! The main goal is for each kid to truly love the game of basketball. All facets of the game are taught but the class mainly focuses on ballhandling and shooting to give each child a solid foundation!
Fun: Basketball is supposed to be fun! Classes are structured to ensure that every kid truly finds a love for basketball. Many dribbling games are played each session and Tom and his staff spend ample time working on each child's shooting form. The kids love the classes and the different dribbling games Coach Abernethy has accquired over the years. During the shooting session, baskets are lowered to accomodate different kids' strengths. There is also a game @ the end of each class that is a highlight for both the children and the parents
Growth: The IBA wants each kid not only to have fun but to also improve! Kids mature by listening to instruction from a coach, but they also mature from interatcion with other kids in a structured manner. We encourage each kid to have good listening skills, display proper sportsmanship, and teamwork! These lessons can yield lifelong benefits!
